Tasks 🡽 let you automate interactions with customers. And for Instagram, you get two more powerful tasks:
- Reply to comments from posts
- Reply to comments from reels
New to tasks? Check out Tasks 🡽 to understand how they work and how to set up your knowledge base.
Where to find Instagram tasks
1. Just like with any task, first open
AI & Automation
.2. Choose Fuely AI mode from the drop-down list.
3. Under Tasks, open
Messages
.4. Done. You’ll see all available tasks for Instagram.
Types of Instagram tasks
Instagram gives you two tasks that help with comments.
They both work the same way - just target different types of content.
When someone comments, Fuely AI can:
- Reply publicly under their comment
- Send them a DM
- Do both
How to set up a task
1. Choose your task. Pick either posts, reels, or turn on both depending on what content you create.
2. Configure settings. This is the most important part - you need to tell Fuely AI what to say when people comment.
For now, let’s use the default settings. You’ll learn how to add your own settings later.
3. Turn on your task. Click the toggle to activate the task.
4. Test your task. Leave a comment on one of your posts to make sure everything works.
How to configure task settings
1. Click the gear icon under the task to open its settings.
2. Choose what setting you want to change:
Reply on posts – public replies on comments
Reply in DMs – private replies in direct messages
Your DMs may go unseen
Non-followers won't get a notification, because your messages will arrive in the requests folder.
3. Add instructions for Fuely AI on how to reply to customers. Or leave the default instructions on.
What should I write?
Here are some tips for good instructions:
- Be specific about your tone and style
- Tell Fuely AI your goal (get DMs, answer questions, etc.)
- Include examples of what you want it to say
4. Save your settings when you’re done.
Managing your conversations
When someone comments, you'll see both your public comment and the private reply in the
Chats
tab. This makes it easy to track all your Instagram interactions in one place.Important notes
Here are some restrictions that might affect how your comment replies work.
Messaging limits
Instagram restricts who you can message and how often:
- New contacts: 1 DM after they comment, then wait for them to reply
- Existing contacts: 24 hours to message after their last message
For full details, check out our Messaging rules guide 🡽
Where your DMs end up
- If someone follows you: DM goes to their main inbox
- If they don't follow you, never messaged you before: DM goes to their message requests folder (no notification for a new message)
Lost DMs
DMs to new people often end up in their requests folder where they're easy to miss.
Use public replies to help new commenters notice your message requests. This way they know to look for your message.
